Who can apply?

The hackathon is public and is open to those who are interested in technology and innovation and have an interesting project or other idea to develop within the scope of the challenges proposed. Participation in the hackathon is open to individuals, in teams, aged 18 or older.

How to form a team?

Participation is open to existing teams of 3 to 6 people and to individual applicants who will then be able to form teams at the event, either on their own or with the help of the event organizers.

What is the theme for the hackathon?

The main theme of the hackathon is the Utilization of Cloud technologies in the broadcast environment for the 4th Industrial Revolution.
Applicants may consider some of the themes below, however they are not limited in scope.

  • BIG DATA – Data Analytics and smart dashboards apps.
  • BROADCAST – Broadcast monetising solutions for example interactive television.
  • RADIO – Realtime radio podcast solutions- typically the solution will be cloud-based and/or hardware-based or hybrid.

What are the awards?

Winning teams will be awarded to following prizes by the panel of judges (TBC):

  • 1st place team: The Lion’s share of R200 000
  • 2nd place team: A share in the remainder of the prized money
  • 3rd place team: What is left

Will Sentech get the intellectual property rights to the product presented by the teams?

No, the innovation produced by the team during the Hackathon will be of their own property.

How will the participants be evaluated?

The winning team will be decided by a jury made up of industry experts and professionals of Sentech.
